So, I had this idea. Last year, my lightest month of shooting was February. I’m pretty sure it’s a trend in the photography community, but February is just not that busy of a month for weddings/portraits. I decided to capitalize on that for 2010 and early last year decided not to take any shooting assignments this February. As a result, if you’ve talked to me in the last several weeks you’ve probably heard me verbalize the great excitement I have to do some relaxing, refreshing, and reflecting this month. One thing I decided I didn’t want to happen, though, was to let the whole month pass me by and not have made good use of my time. I’m not a list-maker/goal-setter kind of a person. But, I am married to one. So, here’s my list of goals. The purpose for me posting them here on my blog for all of you to see is to help me stay accountable… I’ll be crossing them off as they’re completed. It’ll be fun, right?
• Out of town vacation (Louisville, KY) – happening next week! We’ll be visiting a couple of our closest friends and I’ll be attempting to: shoot an experimental maternity session (the couple’s pregnant, so, I’m gonna give this maternity thing a whirl…) / visit at least 1 art museum or gallery / acquire two new Starbucks city mugs (I collect these… means I’ve gotta visit two new places to which I’ve never been).
Went to Louisville, KY and Cincinnati, OH last week and had a blast. Saw the touring off-broadway Cats, and Jess and I had a spending time with two of our closest friends! Great way to start off the month…
• Day of Solitude at Clinton’s Nature Center – work on business plan and goals / journal / prayer
• ONLY one fully experimental couple or family session. Promise no real results and see what happens. Lighting experimentation, posing, shooting at different time of day… be weird.
Done. It was hard to “be weird.” I didn’t realize how methodological I’ve become when shooting, and how difficult it is to do things differently than what has become “normal.” Michael & Emily–both good friends of mine–were incredibly gracious though and let me just experiment away and try my hardest to get some fresh stuff.
• Service day at 1-2 community ministries. (Got a few ideas but would love some suggestions!)
• Edit all unedited files on my hard drive. Those few folders of vacation images and projects I’ve been putting off will finally be uncovered and processed!
All those vacation pictures I posted recently? Yeah, those were the ones.
• Update 5-10 wall prints, 4-6 framed prints, and 1-2 canvases in the studio.
Ordered! Can’t wait to show off the new wall decor for all you studio-visiting friends.
• Spring cleaning at the studio – mop all my floors, clean out workroom, organize storage, restock supplies.
The studio is lookin goooood.
• Research housing options for my mom – my mom’s moving to Clinton!
Finishing up some loose ends on her end and we’re ready!
• ALL DAY FUN DAY with Jess… from sun up to bed time, I’m with her and she’s with me.
Had TWO! Both on Saturdays–a great treat!
• Cook dinner for my small group on a night other than our usual meeting time.
Tried to… couldn’t arrange the schedule with all the freshman guys. Does that count?
